Middle Mountain Momma

So this past weekend was the Middle Mountain Momma which is one of my favorite races of the year. Not only can you choose between and xc race and the enduro but the course takes you up into some real mountains that separate the men from the boys. One perk to this race is that if you have the time you can do a little camping before and after the race. So the RCCC boys decided we were going to head up on Saturday and spend two nights out on the lamb while sticking a race in there somewhere. On the way to the mountains we got a little entertainment while heading down I-64. Check out the fast and furious hot rodding banana we encountered.

Shortly after we headed down the road for some well deserved lunch at one of the best German Restaurants found in the states. The Edelweiss Restaurant located outside of Stuarts Draft, VA is a required stop for any road trip. It has a quaint setting, outdoor seating, and great beers that will make you coming back for more. After we had stuffed ourselves with your classic German meals and put a pitcher of beer out of its misery we we back on our way. Just a little tip they are closed on Mondays and I'd hate for you to miss out.

Once we got to Douthat State Park we set up camp and continued to enjoy the night by the lake. We hung out by the camp fire and waited for the spectacular Moon to rise. If any of you didn't hear last weekend was the closest the moon has orbited to Earth in years. It defiantly put on a show and was even hard to look at because of how bright and clear it was.

In the morning it was race time and all three of us were chomping at the bit to head up into the mountains. If you have never ridden at Douthat State Park you are in for a treat. It has some of the best downhills and some really spectacular views. The trails are always open and in great condition which means you will never be disappointed. The three of us finished in one piece which is always an accomplishment considering you can hit upwards of 35mph on the downhills.

After the race we were treated with a fulfilling lunch provided by the race sponsors and watched as the other riders finished up. The rest of the night was spent around the campfire roasting hotdogs followed by throwing back a few ice colds. We know we enjoyed ourselves and we hope you did to. Hope to see you all out there next year. If you are interested in seeing how everyone did the race results can be found here.

See you out on the trails.

Holes Optional..... yea right....

For those who are a little wholly I present Delta 7 Bikes.....

"Delta 7 has manufactured the first high performance lightweight mountain bike frame featuring the patented IsoTruss carbon fiber and Kevlar spider web-like open lattice tube design. The high performance hardtail bike frame is handcrafted in the United States and weighs only 2.74 pounds. The Arantix is an extreme hardtail mountain bike with an unparalleled strength-to-weight ratio resulting in an ultra stiff and responsive bike." -Delta7

So this frame might not be for everyone especially given there are only two frame sizes but you have to give this company credit. There engineering and craftsmanship are off the charts... Keep it U.S.A. made it's half the reason I liked the frame from the git-go.... So if you feel like adding a work of art to your collection here it is.

The Netherlands

So if you have been wondering who is #1 when it comes to commuting on your bike to do just about anything??? Well the buck stops here when it comes to the Netherlands. The best part about it is everyone is normal looking, happy, and aren't getting run off the road by ignorant rednecks who are addicted to fast cars and fast women... So slow down a bit and join me for a video that could inspire us to be a little bit more bike friendly. Of course it only took them 30 years and an economic downfall to get were they are today.... Enjoy...

P.S. I went through my fast cars and fast women stage and I am a Sophisticated Hillbilly from West Virginia (yes the state)... but that doesn't mean things don't change.

Camp Hilbert #1 & #2

So this season for the RCCC has gotten off to a good start with two races down and more to come. This past weekend was #2 and the only one so far we have gotten a few pictures at. So enjoy and we hope to see you out there in a week for the Kenda Cup race in Douthat State Park. This race formally known as the Middle Mountain Momma is one of my favorites and the grulling XX 40 mile enduro is worth the burn you will feel heading up those things we call mountains.

See you out there. ~ Andrew ~
